“Lizzie is not herself today…”
We all know what Lizzie Borden did on that sweltering August day in 1892, but what if there were more to the story? This fall the imaginary beasts ensemble takes a closer look at the peculiar circumstances leading up to the Borden family’s fatal day when they present a premiere adaptation of Angela Carter’s The Fall River Axe Murders.
The action of Carter’s tale takes place within the seconds leading up to the murderous morning; but, even as we journey from room to room, examining every tiny detail, unsettling events from Lizzie’s past come to life before us, creating an unnerving but vivid portrait of this distinctive American legend. Using an inventive blend of storytelling, movement and puppetry arts, The Fall River Axe Murders marks the long awaited return of imaginary beasts to Angela Carter’s strange and singular Gothic world.
Performed by arrangement with the Angela Carter Estate.
